History #

The Butcher’s Boy, originally built as the barge HANNAH B. in 1879 by Chesley Wheeler in Bay City, Michigan, was a wooden propeller vessel used for passenger and package freight transportation. It had dimensions of 96 feet in length, 21 feet in beam, and 4 feet in depth, with a gross tonnage of 214.

The vessel underwent several name changes and rebuilds throughout its history. In 1881, it was renamed A.H. MORRISON, and in 1884, it was renamed Butcher Boy. It was rebuilt once again in 1893. The Butcher’s Boy had a Canadian official number of C92612.

On an unspecified date in 1902, the Butcher’s Boy encountered a storm near Christian Island in Georgian Bay, Lake Huron. It was driven down by the storm and ultimately foundered. Unfortunately, there is no specific information available regarding the loss of life or the cargo it was carrying at the time.

Prior to its sinking in 1902, the Butcher’s Boy had been owned by the Victoria Harbor Lumber Co. It was originally a U.S. lighter named Hannah B. and was later rebuilt and renumbered. After being sold to Canadian owners, it underwent multiple rebuilds and changes in name and ownership.

Please note that the provided information is based on historical records and may not include all the details or events related to the vessel.
