The propeller EMPIRE STATE collided with the barque DUNDERBURGH on Lake Huron on August 14, 1868, and sank in about ten minutes. The DUNDERBURGH, which was carrying 40,000 bushels of grain, managed to reach Sarnia in a sinking condition.

The DUNDERBURGH was a three-masted schooner, U.S. No. 6151, of 596 tons, built in Detroit, Michigan, by James M. Jones in 1867.

The EMPIRE STATE was a propeller, but no further information is provided about its specifications or history.
