The wrecking tug LEVIATHAN, owned by Grummond Line, burned on November 30, 1891, at Cheboygan, Michigan. She was a total loss, along with her pumps and other wrecking equipment.

The LEVIATHAN was originally built in Buffalo, New York, in 1857, with a tonnage of 315 tons. She changed ownership several times over the years and served as a wrecking tug in the Straits of Mackinaw. She had a successful career as a wrecker and was known for her efficient rescues of stranded vessels. However, in her later years, she faced financial difficulties and changed hands multiple times.

In her final days, she was owned by S.B. Grummond of Detroit. The tug was eventually destroyed by fire in Cheboygan. Despite her age and some near misses, the LEVIATHAN had a remarkable history as a wrecker on the Great Lakes. She was lost on February 15, 1892.

The LEVIATHAN had a gross tonnage of 232.44 tons and a net tonnage of 129.05 tons. She had Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as her home port.
