The schooner SYRACUSE, carrying a cargo of coal, sank near Forty Mile Point in Lake Huron and was declared a total loss. The incident occurred on January 10, 1864. The ship foundered in 8 or 10 fathoms of water, about 12 miles east of Sheboygan (or Cheboygan), Michigan. The captain and crew were safely rescued.
