History #

The schooner Ann Maud, also spelled Anna Maud or Annie Maud, was a wooden schooner built in Port Hope, Ontario, in 1855 by James Connacher. It had no official number C and a tonnage of 93 tons. The vessel was initially owned by D. Elliott of Port Hope.

On late October or early November 1865, the Ann Maud encountered a storm and was driven ashore at Wellington, Ontario, on Lake Ontario. It was carrying a cargo of 15,000 bushels of peas at the time. The incident resulted in the schooner being stranded and deemed a total loss.

No mention of loss of life was reported in connection with the wreck of the Ann Maud. After its wrecking in 1865, there is no further mention of the vessel in available records. However, there is speculation that the schooner Octavia, built in Cramahe in 1866 and with a tonnage of 95 tons, may have been a potential rebuild or successor to the Ann Maud.

Overall, the Ann Maud operated as a schooner on the Great Lakes and met its demise when it was driven ashore and wrecked at Wellington during a storm in 1865.
