The schooner HUNTER, also known as MAGGIE, was built in 1876 at Mill Point, Ontario. Its official number was 72954. Constructed by William Jamieson, it was built on the bottom of another vessel named JOHN S. CLARK. The HUNTER was a two-masted schooner with a length of 104 feet, beam of 24.3 feet, and depth of 9.9 feet. It had a gross tonnage of 168.94 and a net tonnage of 168.94.

Tragically, the HUNTER met its final disposition off Oswego, New York, in Lake Ontario in October 1876. It foundered in a storm while carrying a cargo of coal. The vessel was overloaded when it left Oswego, and unfortunately, all hands on board were lost. The HUNTER was bound for Toronto from Oswego but sailed into a gale that proved to be disastrous. The wreckage of the ship washed ashore near Oswego on October 11, 1876.

In terms of its history, the HUNTER was registered to Samuel Hunter of Toronto, Ontario, on May 12, 1876. However, on October 9 or 10 of the same year, it met its tragic fate and foundered. Finally, on January 17, 1879, the documents for the HUNTER were surrendered.
