According to the Buffalo Evening News report on August 21, 1908, the schooner DUNDEE was involved in a collision with the steamer VARUNA near Belleville, Ontario. While the DUNDEE was approaching the port, the VARUNA collided with her, causing damage to the schooner’s bow. As a result of the collision, a passenger on the VARUNA named Mrs. R. Smith suffered a broken leg. The VARUNA also sustained some damage but continued on its course. The estimated damage to the DUNDEE was around $500.

  • In November 1880, the DUNDEE went ashore in Walter’s Bay, west of Kingston, Ontario.
  • On August 1, 1908, Joseph H. Smith of Belleville, Ontario, became the owner of the DUNDEE, which was then described as a three-masted schooner measuring 124.8 feet in length, 25.3 feet in width, and 9.8 feet in depth. Its gross tonnage was 253.19 tons, and net tonnage was 224 tons.
  • The DUNDEE sank in the Bay of Quinte in 1908.
  • On May 11, 1909, the ownership of the vessel transferred to J. H. & J. W. Smith.
  • On July 22, 1909, J. B. Flint and J. W. Smith became the new owners.
  • In 1911, the DUNDEE caught fire in Belleville Harbor, Ontario.
  • The vessel’s registry was closed in 1914.
  • In 1920, the DUNDEE was abandoned in the Belleville, Ontario, boneyard.
  • Around 1960, the hull of the DUNDEE was among several dredged during harbor cleanups.
