In November 1892, the Canadian dredge DOMINION sank near Point Pelee in Lake Erie. Captain Rardon departed from Detroit with a tug to assess the situation and attend to the sunken dredge. The dredge and its accompanying scows were insured with Crosby, Macdonald & Co, according to reports from the Buffalo Enquirer on November 3, 1892.

The DOMINION came to rest on a rock and sand bottom, with remnants of coal scattered around the area where its steam boiler was located. China shards were also found nearby, and on the starboard side, large “C” clamps were observed. The stern of the dredge was broken, and the chain was wrapped around the winch. The dredge boom lay to the north of the wreck.

The DOMINION was a dredge vessel built in Toledo, Ohio in 1883. It had a length of 70 feet, a beam of 26.5 feet, and a depth of 6 feet. Unfortunately, there is no further information available regarding the history of the DOMINION beyond its sinking off Point Pelee in Lake Erie in November 1892.
