The propeller ARIADNE was built in 1885 by William J. McDonnell in Wallaceburg, Ontario. It had a length of 63 feet, a beam of 13.6 feet, and a depth of 5.2 feet. The vessel had a gross tonnage of 37.57 tons and a net tonnage of 25.55 tons. Its power was provided by a 7 horsepower engine with a single cylinder, built by J.F. McKeough in Chatham.
The ARIADNE was initially owned by Jas. Winard Steinhoff of Wallaceburg, Ontario, and was registered there on September 17, 1885. Over the years, ownership of the vessel changed, with A. Ribble of Dresden, Ontario, listed as the owner in 1901, and Asa Riddle of Dresden listed as the owner in 1914.
On November 23, 1916, the ARIADNE met its final fate. It was wrecked at Point Pelee, Ontario, in Lake Erie during a storm. The vessel was beached and subsequently abandoned. Unfortunately, there is no information available regarding loss of life or the cargo the ARIADNE may have been carrying at the time of the incident.
Overall, the ARIADNE was a wooden fish tug that operated out of Wallaceburg, Ontario. It had a relatively long history before its final wrecking in 1916.
