The dredge CEI, owned by the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, has a scattered presence at the site. It lies in depths ranging from 15 to 20 feet. As a barge-type vessel, it does not carry any cargo and lacks power capabilities.

The exact date of its construction is unknown, but the dredge CEI operated in the mid-1920s. Tragically, it met its demise during that time.

The cause of the loss can be attributed to various factors observed at the site. On the west side of the intake retaining wall, large rocks, a winch, steel cable, and metal parts from the dredge can be found. Interestingly, the water temperatures near the outflow tend to be 10+ degrees warmer than the prevailing water temperatures. Moving north of the retaining wall, only fragments of the barge remain, consisting of metal chains and a tow bit. The seabed consists of rocks on the north side of the wall and gradually transitions to sand closer in. The unique rock formations in the area can be attributed, in part, to the construction of the nearby plant.

It is important to note that there are potential hazards around the site. The east side of the plant experiences a heavy current due to the water intake, making it unsafe to enter that area. Furthermore, the western side of the site is characterized by significant boat and personal watercraft traffic, stemming from the nearby boat launch.

Please exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines when navigating or exploring the vicinity of the dredge CEI.
