The JENNIE BRISCOE was a wooden propeller steam barge built in 1870 by Campbell & Owen in Detroit, Michigan. Its official number was 75203, and it had the dimensions of 85 feet in length, 22 feet in beam, and 5 feet in depth. The barge had a gross tonnage of 82.59 tons.
On August 26, 1870, the Jennie Briscoe was involved in a collision with the propeller named Free State and sank off Grosse Ile, Michigan in the Detroit River. The collision resulted in the loss of one life. The barge was a total loss in the incident. It was captained by Francis Tufts and had its homeport in Detroit.
After the sinking, the wreck of the Jennie Briscoe was sold as a wreck in 1871 and was subsequently rebuilt as the propeller scow named Herald. However, the barge was still listed on the U.S. registry in 1877 as a propeller.
The final fate of the Jennie Briscoe (Herald) was a stranding at Port Stanley, Ontario, in 1883, where it was wrecked.
