The Theano was a bulk freighter built in 1889 in Slikkerveer, Netherlands. It had the official number BR110350. The vessel was constructed with a steel hull, and it was designed as a single-deck bulk freighter.
The Theano was powered by a screw propulsion system, indicating that it was equipped with a propeller for propulsion. The dimensions of the ship were 241.8 feet in length, 36 feet in beam, and 17.1 feet in depth. It had a gross tonnage of 1,534 and a net tonnage of 952.
In terms of ownership and registration, the Theano was initially registered out of Newcastle, England, in 1889. However, in July 1900, it was purchased by the Algoma Central Railway and arrived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Tragically, the Theano met its final fate on November 17, 1906. The vessel was wrecked near Trowbridge Island, which is located three miles east of Thunder Bay, Ontario, in Lake Superior. The ship struck Marvin Island, causing a hole in its hull along the rocky shore. The boiler of the Theano blew, and the ship slipped off into deep water near Trowbridge Island. The final cargo aboard the Theano consisted of steel rails.
In 2004, the wreck of the Theano was located in Lake Superior at a depth exceeding 200 feet.
