The 136-foot schooner Havana was built in 1871 in Oswego, NY, and had a short but dramatic career. After running aground in 1885 and being salvaged, it sank just two years later. In October 1887, while hauling iron ore from Escanaba to St. Joseph, a fierce storm prevented it from entering the harbor. The ship leaked badly, drifted north, and went down in 50 feet of water, six miles off St. Joseph. Three crew members drowned when the main mast collapsed.
Today, the Havana rests in the Southwest Michigan Underwater Preserve. Thanks to Andrew Goodman and 3DShipwrecks, you can now explore a detailed 3D model created from over 2,000 high-resolution images captured on a single DPV dive.
