June 26, 2023 – First 3D Model of the Olive Branch Wreck (Lake Ontario)
Contributor: Corey
Location: Lake Ontario – Olive Branch Shipwreck
In an exciting milestone for our ongoing digital documentation efforts, Corey has successfully published his first-ever 3D photogrammetry model — based on dive footage captured at the wreck of the Olive Branch, a site nestled in the depths of Lake Ontario.
Utilizing Agisoft Metashape, Corey experimented with converting dive video into a three-dimensional representation of the wreck. The results, while still a work-in-progress, offer a promising glimpse into the potential of diver-sourced media for digital heritage preservation.
“I have been playing with Metashape. I used my video from the Olive Branch on the weekend and was able to get a decent model. I haven’t figured out how to reduce the resolution without completely obliterating the details — the original model has a lot more texture. But all in all, I don’t think it’s too bad for a first try.”

The Olive Branch is one of the many lesser-known wrecks in Lake Ontario, and this early model adds a valuable digital layer to our records. First-time attempts often require fine-tuning — especially when balancing resolution and detail retention — but this step opens the door to future refinement and broader site visibility.
Stay tuned as we continue to improve and publish 3D models of wrecks from both sides of the Great Lakes. We’re proud of Corey’s contribution — it’s not just a technical milestone, it’s a step forward in preserving underwater history one model at a time.
