Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD)

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD) is the largest provider of dredging services in the United States, specializing in projects that enhance and protect the nation’s infrastructure and coastlines. Established in 1890 as a partnership between William A. Lydon and Fred C. Drews, the company was originally named Lydon & Drews. In 1905, it was renamed Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company.

Throughout its history, GLDD has been involved in significant projects, including the construction of shoreline structures for Chicago’s Columbian Exposition in 1892 and the foundations for what is now Navy Pier. The company has expanded its operations beyond the Great Lakes, undertaking projects along the U.S. East Coast and internationally.

In October 2020, GLDD relocated its corporate headquarters from Oak Brook, Illinois, to Houston, Texas. The company operates a diverse fleet of equipment, including hopper, mechanical, and hydraulic dredges, along with approximately 200 support vessels. This extensive fleet enables GLDD to execute a wide range of dredging and land reclamation projects both domestically and internationally.

GLDD’s commitment to safety and environmental protection is evident in its operations, as the company prioritizes innovative and high-quality workmanship while focusing on safety and environmental enhancement.
