We just added a Lake Michigan shallow water wreck from the Manitou Passage Underwater Preserve to our 3DShipwrecks.org database and website. We now have models of 18% of the estimated 1,200 visible Great Lakes Shipwrecks in the database.
The 236 ft package freighter Walter Frost was built in 1883 at the Detroit Drydock Company. It changed hands between railroad companies a couple times. The end came when it grounded in the wind and fog on South Manitou Island, Lake Michigan where two salvage companies tried but failed to recover it, leaving it to be damaged by wind and waves. It was damaged again much later when the steel freighter Francisco Morazan ran aground on top of it. Now the Morazan lays a short distance from the Walter Frost.
The model was created from 1,390 30-megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman in the 2023 season. The link to the new model is: https://3dshipwrecks.org/shipwreck-walter-l-frost/ and the location is shown in the second image.
