St. Marys River – Wrecks, Structures & Dive Sites
Connecting You to the Depths of the Great Lakes & Rivers
The St. Mary’s River connects the cold, deep waters of Lake Superior to Lake Huron through
one of the most important shipping corridors on the Great Lakes. Its strong currents, historic channels,
and centuries of commercial and military use have left behind submerged structures, navigation features,
and a collection of lesser-known wrecks.
This narrow but crucial waterway has served Indigenous trade networks, fur companies, steamship lines,
logging transport, and modern lakers. The shifting channels and heavy vessel traffic have shaped a unique
underwater environment rich in industrial history and river archaeology.
