Vessel Type Description:
The Magdala was a 165-ton Schooner built in Quebec in 1868. She measured 105 feet in length, with a beam of 25.3 feet and a depth of 9.4 feet. Her home port was Quebec, and she was owned by George Farewell of Oshawa, Ontario.
History:
The Magdala departed Oswego on Tuesday, December 5, 1882, bound for Whitby, Ontario. She was not heard from again, and fears quickly grew for her safety. The vessel disappeared during a dangerous time for navigation, with winter storms and harsh lake conditions.
Final Disposition:
The Magdala was never recovered, and all hands were presumed lost. The fate of the vessel remains a mystery, with no survivors or wreckage found.
