Schooner: A type of sailing vessel characterized by having two or more masts, typically rigged fore-and-aft (with sails parallel to the keel). Schooners were widely used in the 18th and 19th centuries for cargo, fishing, and coastal trade due to their speed and maneuverability. Many schooners ended up as wrecks on the Great Lakes and Atlantic Coast, and their distinct hull design and rigging make them identifiable in underwater sites.
