This past Saturday, I (Corey) had the honour of being a guest speaker at the Mariners Park Museum near Picton, Ontario. Despite the rainy, wet, and dull weather, we had an incredible turnout—a packed house of over 20 visitors! It was great to see such strong interest in local maritime history, though I felt bad for those who saw the crowd and didn’t stay.
Topics Covered in the Presentation:
✅ Save Ontario Shipwrecks (SOS) and the Picton Chapter
✅ SOS Mooring Projects
✅ Shotline Diving & Our Work
✅ Tools for Documenting Wrecks
✅ Prince Edward County (PEC) Shipwrecks
✅ Historical Highlights of Wrecks Including:
- Olive Branch
- Annie Falconer
- China
- Katie Eccles
- City of Sheboygan
✅ How to Get Involved in Local Maritime Preservation
The audience really enjoyed seeing the wrecks in their current states, brought to life through photos, video, and sketches created by Tom at Shotline Diving. One of the biggest highlights was the 3D photogrammetry model of the Olive Branch, which truly immersed everyone in the underwater world of PEC’s shipwrecks.
It was great to share this history not only with divers but also with members of the non-diving public. The informal format led to some fantastic discussions, and a few people stayed afterward to chat about local wrecks and preservation efforts.
If you’re looking for a place to explore the maritime history of Prince Edward County, I highly recommend visiting Mariners Park Museum. You’ll find an incredible collection of artifacts—maybe even from some of your favourite dive sites!
A huge thank you to Prince Edward County and Mariners Park Museum for inviting me to speak. I hope to return for another diving history session in the future!
