E. George of Presque Isle was the owner of the wooden schooner Centurion, constructed in 1863 by L. Stevens in Presque Isle, Ontario. The Centurion was a two-masted vessel designed for cargo transport across Lake Ontario. In September 1874, the schooner suffered a significant incident near Amherst Island, resulting in the loss of 20,000 feet of lumber and financial damages estimated at $1,600 for the hull and $3,000 for the cargo. Later that year, on December 25, 1874, the Centurion sank off False Duck Islands while carrying iron ore. Fortunately, the crew survived after enduring six hours in an open boat before being rescued and brought to Kingston. The exact details of E. George’s life and other ventures remain limited in historical records.
