James Aug

James Aug was a 19th-century resident of Wellington Square, Ontario, now known as Burlington. In 1864, he co-owned the schooner Carrier Dove with John Irwin of Wolfe Island. The Carrier Dove, built in 1854 on Wolfe Island, was a wooden schooner measuring 88.8 feet in length with a tonnage of 144. The vessel met its demise on May 10, 1867, near Oswego, New York, after being washed out of the river and losing its masts during a storm or strong current. The wreck lies near the fort in Oswego, New York, in Lake Ontario.

Beyond his involvement with the Carrier Dove, specific details about James Aug’s life and other ventures remain limited in historical records. His association with the schooner indicates his participation in the maritime activities that were vital to the economy of Wellington Square and the broader Great Lakes region during that era.
