History #

The CARLOTTA, originally built as the sail yacht ADRIENNE, was a gas screw vessel that operated as a fish tug. It was built in 1879 by Lawley & Son in Boston, Massachusetts, as a schooner. The CARLOTTA had the following specifications: 39 feet in length, 14 feet in beam, and 5 feet in depth. It weighed 14 gross tons and 12 net tons. Its official number was 105834.

On August 27, 1913, the CARLOTTA caught fire while underway near Elmwood Beach, off Grand Island in Munising Bay, Lake Superior. Unfortunately, the fire resulted in the total loss of the vessel. Two individuals were on board at the time of the fire, but fortunately, there were no reported fatalities.

The CARLOTTA underwent a change from a schooner to a gas screw yacht in 1910. It was owned by Benjamin Cowles of Buffalo, New York, in 1911. The vessel was registered under the name CARLOTTA with the same official number.

The CARLOTTA had a previous name change from the schooner ADRIENNE. It had also been listed as the schooner yacht THORA in some sources.
