Wilcox & Fountain

Wilcox & Fountain was a prominent maritime partnership based in Fairport, Ohio, during the mid-19th century. The firm was involved in the ownership and operation of several vessels that played significant roles in Great Lakes shipping. Notable vessels associated with Wilcox & Fountain include:

Wild Rover (1855, Schooner): Built by Eli Bates in Milan, Ohio, the Wild Rover was owned by Wilcox & Fountain in 1863. The schooner faced several incidents, including running ashore at South Bay Point, Lake Ontario, in 1860, and losing a crew member overboard near Point Abino, Lake Erie, in 1862. In July 1866, it sank in the St. Lawrence River off Brockville while carrying a cargo of corn but was later raised and repaired.

Storm (1854, Scow Schooner): This vessel was co-owned by James Davis, B. O. Wilcox, and R. H. Fountain, all from Fairport, Ohio. The Storm was enrolled on June 6, 1854.

These vessels highlight the active involvement of Wilcox & Fountain in the Great Lakes shipping industry during the 19th century, contributing to the economic development of the region.
