John Irwin (1834–1897) was a prominent figure on Wolfe Island, Ontario, during the 19th century. Born in 1834, he married Eliza Ann “Annie” Davis (1840–1927), the daughter of John Davis, an early settler of Wolfe Island. Together, John and Eliza had several children, including Captain Robert Chamberlain Irwin (1867–1909), who was born on Wolfe Island and later became a notable mariner.
John Irwin’s contributions to the community, particularly in maritime activities, were significant during his lifetime. He passed away in 1897, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with the history of Wolfe Island and its development in the late 19th century.
