J. McDermot

Location: Detroit, Michigan.

History: J. McDermot was reportedly a shipbuilder or contractor active in Detroit during the mid-19th century. The attribution of McDermot as the builder of the Barclay suggests his involvement in the construction of smaller vessels, including scow schooners, which were commonly used for freight and timber transport across the Great Lakes. Unfortunately, little specific documentation about McDermot’s career survives.
