A. Trerice was a later owner of the COLLINA, based in Dresden, Ontario, a small town near Wallaceburg also situated along the Sydenham River. Dresden was similarly involved in the timber trade and related industries, and owning a vessel like the COLLINA would have been advantageous for moving timber along the river and to broader Great Lakes destinations.
As the new owner of the COLLINA, A. Trerice likely continued using the barge for transporting lumber and other timber products. The vessel’s routes would have extended from the Sydenham River down to Lake St. Clair and potentially to Lake Erie, servicing lumber mills, sawmills, and other industries that relied on these materials.
Like Fraser, Trerice’s work reflects the importance of small barge and vessel ownership among regional entrepreneurs who contributed to Dresden’s role in the timber economy. The switch of the COLLINA’s ownership from Fraser to Trerice exemplifies the frequent changes in vessel ownership within the Great Lakes trade network, where vessels would often be bought and sold as business needs and economic circumstances changed.
