Patriot War: A conflict between 1837 and 1838 involving groups of American patriots and Canadian rebels who aimed to end British rule in Canada. The conflict, partly inspired by the American Revolution, involved battles along the U.S.-Canada border, particularly near the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. Some ships from the Patriot War era have since become historic wreck sites, with artifacts contributing to our understanding of early Canadian and American naval history.
