• Schooner
  • South Side Lake Ontario

The first schooner to anchor in Toronto Harbor is uncertain. The earliest known vessel associated with Toronto Bay is the Frontenac, a 10-ton brigantine or shallop, which carried materials for the construction of the Griffon, a larger ship. However, there is no evidence that the Frontenac actually entered Toronto Harbor. According to records from Father Hennepin, the Frontenac sought shelter at the mouth of the Humber River on its way to Niagara from November 26th to December 5th, 1678. Shortly after, it was wrecked on the south shore of Lake Ontario.
