The wreck with RECRD “6312” and VESSLTERMS “UNKNOWN” is a submerged wreck that is dangerous to surface navigation. It is located at approximately latitude 46.251508 and longitude -84.182867. The wreck is at a depth of 17 feet and is marked as a submerged dangerous wreck on charts.
The history of this wreck is not well-documented. It was first added to the 1908 edition of Chart 14883 as a visible wreck with the least depth of 5 feet, located at latitude 46-15-06N and longitude 84-10-58.2W. However, a fathometer and diver investigation in 1988 revealed that it is actually a wooden rowboat, approximately 15 x 6 feet in size, partially submerged in silt at the inshore end. The leadline indicated a least depth of 17 feet at the wreck’s position, which is recorded as latitude 46-15-05.37N and longitude 84-10-58.22W (NAD27).
Based on this updated information, the evaluator recommended deleting the previously charted wreck with a depth of 5 feet and instead adding the wreck with a depth of 17 feet at the survey position. This wreck remains a hazard to navigation and should be approached with caution.
