The TASHMOO was a sidewheel passenger steamship built on December 30, 1899, in Wyandotte, Michigan, USA. It had a steel hull and was registered under U.S. No. 145843. The ship had a gross tonnage of 1,344 tons and a net tonnage of 766 tons. Its dimensions were 302.9 feet in length, 37.6 feet in width, and 13.6 feet in depth.
The TASHMOO was primarily engaged in passenger service and had a crew of 82 members. It had an indicated horsepower of 3,150. The ship was owned by the White Star Steamship Company and its home port was Detroit, Michigan.
On June 18, 1936, the TASHMOO struck a rock in the Detroit River, specifically in Sugar Island Channel, near Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada. However, it was fortunate that there were no casualties, and all 1,529 passengers on board were safely rescued.
After the incident, the ship was raised later that same year and subsequently scrapped. The information about the TASHMOO can be found in the Detroit/Wyandotte Shipbuilding Master List at the Institute for Great Lakes Research in Perrysburg, Ohio, as well as in the Merchant Vessel Lists of the United States for the years 1935 and 1937.
