The Wide Awake was a schooner built in 1856 at Madison Dock, Ohio. It was constructed using wood and was owned by B. L. Spangler and others from Cleveland, Ohio. The vessel measured 130.9 feet in length, 26 feet in beam (width), and had a depth of 10.1 feet. Its gross tonnage was recorded as 355.
In its short history, the Wide Awake encountered unfortunate events. On February 8, 1857, it was washed from the Oswego River and sunk near Port Ontario. However, it was later towed back to the harbor. Unfortunately, just two days later, on February 10, 1857, the Wide Awake broke up, presumably during a storm.
The final disposition of the Wide Awake took place in Oswego, New York, on Lake Ontario. The vessel did not have any cargo at the time of its final incident.
