The passage you provided seems to be a record of a sunken wreck located at LAT 43-02-57N, LONG 79-00-07W in Lake Ontario. The wreck is identified as LS1775/40 and is charted with a note indicating “DEPTH OVER WRECK 5 FT.”
A later hydrographic survey (H9889/80) showed that the submerged wreck was not visible to the eye, but it appeared clearly on the fathogram. Pole soundings over the wreck indicated a fairly large area of hard spots, possibly wooden beams, filled in with soft mud. The hydrographer believed that it was probably a sunken barge.
The least depth recorded by the fathometer was 6 feet, while pole soundings were all deeper. The least depth was located at LAT 43-02-57.1N, LONG 79-00-06.5W. Despite this, the depth of 5 feet over the wreck as charted was not disproven.
Based on this evaluation, it was recommended to retain the designation of the sunken wreck on charts with the note “DEPTH OVER WRECK 5 FT.”
