The schooner PLUMMER, C.H. was constructed in 1888 in Sandusky, Ohio. It featured a plain head and square stern design, typical of schooners of that era. The vessel was built with wood and had a single deck. William Huddock served as both the builder and master carpenter of the PLUMMER, C.H.
Upon its completion, the schooner was originally owned by E.L. Redding and others, with Sandusky listed as its location. Ownership later transferred to A.J. Helbing, who was also based in Sandusky.
The PLUMMER, C.H. had a single mast and its hull had the following dimensions: a length of 116.5 feet, a beam of 28.3 feet, and a depth of 8.2 feet. It had a gross tonnage of 219.43 and a net tonnage of 208.56.
Tragically, on November 21, 1888, the schooner met its demise. It caught fire and burned completely, resulting in a total loss. The incident took place at Kelley’s Island, located in Lake Erie. The vessel was carrying a cargo of stone at the time of the fire. As a result of the destruction, the documents of the PLUMMER, C.H. were surrendered in Sandusky.
