The schooner TRANSPORT, carrying a cargo of lumber, ran aground at Blue Ledge and was subsequently run ashore at Richmondville. She was declared a total loss. The incident occurred in 1871.
The vessel TRANSPORT was first owned by Walter Joy, Esq., of Buffalo, and was built in 1858 by F.N. Jones. After the accident, her outfit was salvaged, but the vessel itself became a wreck.
The owner of the vessel, Mr. Gage of Silver Creek, decided to have a survey conducted. It was likely with the intention of assessing the damage and potentially abandoning the vessel to the Underwriters, after removing the remaining lumber and lath from her cargo hold and deckload.
