While being towed with a cargo of coal, Little Wissahickon began to take on water and sank on July 10, 1896. The wreck sits upright, with the ship’s wheel at the stern, and windlass and anchors at the bow. The ship’s bell was removed by Ohio divers for display in the US and was returned and is now bolted to a concrete block at the wreck site.
