The steamer C. D. LEUTY, owned by the Saginaw Bay Transportation Company, stranded off Lighthouse Point in Marquette, Michigan, on October 31, 1911, while bound for Pequaming with a cargo of lumber. The vessel eventually broke in two due to violent gales and snowstorms. The greater portion of the ship was carried into the lake, but the machinery remained intact. The captain and crew of twelve were rescued by life-savers, and fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident. The D. LEUTY was a steam screw vessel of 646 tons gross, built in 1882 in Lorain, Ohio, with a home port of Cleveland, Ohio. It was primarily engaged in freight service and had a crew of 12.
